Top Summer Hairstyles and Colors To Try

Your browser may not support the audio element but you certainly get vocal this summer with the top hairstyles that scream your presence silently.
1. The Pixie Cut
This style is perfect for ladies who want a low-maintenance look that’s still stylish and flattering. “A pixie cut can be worn in so many ways,” says Shorter. “It can be sleek and polished or tousled and piece-y.” Opara agrees, adding that a pixie is also a great way to show off your facial features. “If you have great cheekbones or eyes, this is the style for you,” she says.
To get the look, start by applying a volumizing mousse to damp hair, then blow dry with a round brush. Once your hair is completely dry, use a flat iron to smooth out any flyaways. Finish with a light mist of hairspray.
2. The Lob
The lob (or long bob) is a versatile style that looks good on just about everyone. “It’s a great choice for ladies who want to transition from long to short hair,” says Lavar. “It can also be styled in endless ways, so you’ll never get bored with it.”

To style a lob, start by applying a heat protectant to damp hair. Then, use a large barrel curling iron to curl 1-inch sections of hair away from your face. Once your entire head is curled, run your fingers through your hair to break up the curls. Finish with a light mist of hairspray.

3. The Braid
Braids are a timeless style that will never go out of fashion. They’re also perfect for hot summer days when you don’t want your hair sticking to your face. “I love braids because they’re so versatile,” says Opara. “You can wear them loose and casual or dress them up for a night out.”
There are countless ways to wear braids, but one of our favorites is the fishtail braid. To achieve this look, start by spraying your hair with a texturizing spray. Then, divide your hair into two sections and begin braiding each section by taking small pieces of hair from the outside and crossing them over to the other side. Continue until you reach the end of your hair, then secure with an elastic. Gently tug on the braid to loosen it up and give it a more casual feel.
4. The Updo
An updo is the perfect style for a summer wedding or any other formal occasion. “An updo can be as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be,” says Lavar. “It’s also a great way to keep your hair off your face in the heat.”
One of our favorite updos is the classic bun. To achieve this look, start by spraying your hair with a texturizing spray. Then, gather your hair into a high ponytail and twist it into a bun. Secure with bobby pins and finish with a light mist of hairspray. For a more elegant look, try adding a few curls around your face with a curling iron before securing your bun.
5. The Blowout
A blowout is always a good idea, whether you’re headed to the office or a night out on the town. “A blowout is the perfect way to achieve polished, sexy hair,” says Shorter. “It’s also relatively low-maintenance, which is ideal for summertime.”

To get the perfect blowout, start by washing your hair with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Then, apply a heat protectant to damp hair and blow dry with a round brush. Once your hair is completely dry, use a flat iron to smooth out any flyaways. Finish with a light mist of hairspray.
