6 Winter Fashion Tips for College Students

While winter brings its charms you don’t want to freeze your butt off, especially when you’re underdressed and freezing. It is a tricky balance, but these six tips will have you nailing winter fashion in no time.

1. Start with the basics

a good coat, scarf, and gloves are key to any great winter outfit. You want to make sure you have a coat that is both stylish and practical. A wool coat is always a good choice as it will keep you warm without being too bulky. Once you have your coat sorted, choose a scarf that compliments it nicely. A thick knit scarf will not only keep you warm but also add some texture and style to your outfit. Finally, make sure you have a good pair of gloves. Leather gloves are always a chic choice, but make sure they are lined for extra warmth.

2. Layer up

one of the best things about winter fashion is the opportunity to layer different pieces and create unique looks. Start with a basic long sleeve tee or turtleneck and then add on from there.

A chunky sweater looks great over a tee, or try layering a button down shirt under your sweater for a preppy look. Don’t be afraid to mix different textures and patterns when layering- just make sure everything fits well together.

3. Jeans are your friend

there is nothing more comfortable (or stylish) in winter than a great pair of jeans. Denim always looks fresh, even if you’ve been wearing the same pair all week long. If you’re sick of your regular blue jeans, try black or grey denim instead- they look just as good and will go with everything in your closet. When it comes to fit, choose something that is comfortable but not too baggy as you don’t want extra fabric bunching up around your ankles when you put on boots later.

4. Boots are essential

once the weather gets cold enough, it’s time to break out the boots! Tall boots look great with jeans or leggings, while ankle boots can be worn with skirts or dresses (just make sure they aren’t too short). Invest in a good pair of waterproof boots so you don’t have to worry about ruining them in the snow or rain- they will last longer and keep your feet much drier too.

5 . Add some accessories

once you have your outfit sorted, it’s time to accessorize! A cute hat or beanie can take any outfit from boring to stylish in an instant (plus it will keep your head warm). If you don’t like hats, try adding some statement earrings or a colorful scarf instead. Winter is also the perfect time to break out those chunky knit sweaters or scarves- they add instant coziness to any outfit!

6 . Don’t forget about makeup

just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you should neglect your makeup routine! Make sure to moisturize your skin so it doesn’t dry out from the cold weather (use an oil-free moisturizer if you have oily skin). Choose foundation that has SPF in it so you can protect your skin from the sun (yes, even in winter!). And last but not least, don’t forget about lipstick! A pop of color on your lips will brighten up any dull winter day 🙂
