1. Make sure the lighting is good
This is probably the most important thing. If you can, set up your camera so that the light is coming from in front of you or to the side. Avoid having a light source behind you because it will create shadows on your face. If you’re using your phone, try to be in a well-lit room. Natural light is always best but if that’s not possible, make sure the room is brightly lit with overhead lights.
2. Choose the right angle
The angle of the camera can make a big difference in how you look on video. Avoid holding the camera too low so that you’re looking up at the camera. This will make your nose look bigger and your eyes will look smaller. Instead, hold the camera at eye level or slightly above. This will give you a more flattering angle and make you look better on video.
3. Pay attention to your background
Your background should be clean and simple. Avoid having anything too busy or distracting behind you. A plain wall or curtain is usually best. If you’re using your phone, try to find a spot where there’s not a lot of clutter in the background. You want people to focus on your face, not what’s going on behind you.
4. Dress for success
What you wear on video can make a big difference in how you look and how people perceive you. Avoid wearing anything too casual or too revealing. You want to look professional and put-together. Choose clothes that are comfortable but also make you look good on camera. Solid colors usually work best. And avoid wearing anything that’s too tight or that shows too much skin.
5. Relax and be yourself
The most important thing is to relax and be yourself. Don’t try to be someone you’re not. People can usually tell when you’re not being genuine and it will make you look uncomfortable on video. Just be yourself and let your personality shine through. If you’re relaxed and confident, you’ll look great on video.
