A Delightful Blend of Sheer Elegance and Playful Flourishes— Fendi and Dior Fall Collections

With a collection that started with a series of outerwear in organza — some with the house’s double-F logo embroidered on the back, others printed all-over with a vintage floral motif. The same print was used for dresses, many of which were belted at the waist and worn over pants or under voluminous coats. And there were also several evening looks, including one standout gown in black tulle embroidered all-over with sequins in the shape of flowers.
While Jones said the collection was about “the lightness of being,” there was also an element of fun and games built into it. Models wore their hair in high ponytails adorned with Fendi-branded scrunchies or had their faces hidden behind furry animal masks.
At Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri took a different tack on sheer, using it as a way to put a new spin on classic tailoring for fall 2023. Sheer blouses were tucked into trousers or worn beneath jackets; other times they came billowing out from under suit vests.

Some looks featured multiple layers of tulle — both transparent and opaque — while others played with unexpected pairings like a hoodie layered over a dress made entirely from organza ruffles.
Chiuri also sent out several evening looks, including one showstopping number: A sleeveless gown made from tiers of organza ruffles that gradually turned from white to black as they cascaded down the model’s body. It was dramatic yet ethereal — and proof that when it comes to sheer beauty, more is definitely more.
