So what happens when you want to change your hair color, or you want to try a new style? You guessed it: You mix it up! In this issue we discuss two go-to styles and a company rewriting the beauty rules. But first up the half up half down beauty style
The half-up, half-down bow hairstyle is one of the most popular looks around, and it’s perfect for any occasion. Whether you’re headed to a party or just want to add a little something extra to your everyday look, this tutorial will show you how to get the perfect half-up, half-down bow hairstyle.
Start by separating your hair into two sections: top and bottom. For the top section, take a small subsection of hair from each side and tie it back with an elastic. Repeat this step until all of the hair on top of your head is pulled back into a ponytail.
For the bottom section, take a small subsection of hair from each side and twist it away from your face. Once all of the hair has been twisted, gather it into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck and secure with an elastic.
To finish off the look, take both ponytails and wrap them around each other to form a bow. Secure with bobby pins and mist with hairspray for extra hold.
Bangs Aren’t Just for Teens: Bangs can do a lot for a woman’s face—hide wrinkles, accentuate cheekbones, and give the illusion of fuller lips. They’re also a style that signals youth. But not all bangs are created equal. If you have a long face, go for side-swept bangs that hit at the cheekbone. If you have a round face, ask your stylist for blunt bangs that start above the eyebrows. And if you have an oval face (lucky you), you can pretty much pull off any type of bangs.
Pro Tip: When it comes to bangs, shorter is almost always better.” Longer bangs can make you look older because they cast shadows on your face,” says New York City hairstylist Nunzio Saviano.

After exiting the 101 at Canon Drive, it is impossible not to spot Chris McMillan’s salon. The Beverly Hills outpost of this popular Los Angeles institution sits tucked away on a side street near Wilshire Boulevard, and its exterior is decidedly unassuming. Upon walking in, however, one immediately notices an air of professionalism and luxury.
The reception area was packed with well-coiffed clients waiting for their appointments; many of whom were probably there for color touch-ups or root retouches following their recent trips abroad. We were there for something much more major: a cut and style from McMillan himself.
Fortunately, we did not have to wait long as McMillan finished up with his previous client and greeted us warmly. After asking about our recent travels (we had just returned from New York City), he led us back to his private studio where we spent the next hour discussing everything from our hairstyle goals to the latest industry gossip.
