We sat down with Amy Smilovic, Tibi’s founder and creative director, to find out more about the hair and makeup look she was going for this season It was the real sheen about the hair and makeup that really caught our attention.
How would you describe the hair and makeup look you were going for this season?
I wanted the hair to be very elegant and soft with a bit of an old Hollywood feel, and I thought a classic red lip would add just the right amount of glamour. For the makeup, I wanted to keep things clean and fresh with just a hint of smokiness around the eyes.
What products did you use to achieve this look?
For the hair, we used a texturizing spray to give it that soft, beachy wave and then we added a bit of shine with a serum. For the makeup, we used a foundation that had just enough coverage to even out skin tone without looking heavy, and then we added some definition around the eyes with a dark brown pencil. We finished things off with red lipstick and plenty of mascara.
Do you have any tips for achieving this look at home?
For the hair, I would recommend using a texturizing spray on damp hair and then either blow drying it or letting it air dry. Once it’s dry, add a bit of serum to your hands and run it through your hair to tame any flyaways.
For the makeup, start with a good quality foundation or BB cream and build up coverage as needed. Then use a dark brown pencil to line your upper lash line and smudge it slightly for a bit of smokiness. Finish things off with red lipstick (we used MAC’s Ruby Woo) and plenty of black mascara.
