5 Secrets to Healthier Hair, Straight From a Celeb Stylist

We trust her with the 5 secrets to healthier hair that she recently spilled to us–take note, ladies!

1. Get Regular Trims

If you want your hair to grow long and strong, you need to get regular trims–this helps get rid of any damaged or split ends that could cause breakage further up the shaft. How often you need a trim will depend on how quickly your hair grows and how well you take care of it at home, but every 6-8 weeks is a good general rule of thumb.

2. Don’t Overwash

You might think that washing your hair every day is the best way to keep it clean and healthy, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Overwashing can actually strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry, brittle, and more prone to breakage. Plus, it can also lead to scalp irritation. Aim to wash your hair 2-3 times per week at most, using a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner.

3. Invest in Good Hair Care Products

If you want healthy hair, you need to use good quality products–don’t skimp on the shampoo and conditioner! Look for products that are specifically designed for your hair type and needs, whether that’s color-treated hair, dry hair, or oily hair. And don’t forget about leave-in treatments and heat protectants–these can help tremendously with preventing damage from heat styling tools.

4. Be Gentle when Styling

When you style your hair, be gentle! Avoid using excessive heat or pulling too tight when brushing through wet tangles. If you use hot tools like curling irons or flat irons, make sure they’re not set too high (aim for below 400 degrees Fahrenheit) and be sure to use a heat protectant product beforehand. If you can air dry instead of blow drying, that’s even better for your hair.

5. Eat a Healthy Diet

Your diet plays a big role in the health of your hair (and skin!). Make sure you’re eating plenty of healthy fats, proteins, fruits, and vegetables to give your body the nutrients it needs to create strong, healthy hair strands.
