Robinson is definitely making good on his promise to sex up the American sportswear label. “I want Gap to have that American voice, to be culturally relevant, and to be the cool, iconic brand”.
– Lesley Scotto be the coolest Gap that’s ever existed,” he told Women’s Wear Daily in 2006. Judging by his fall collection – which hit stores last week – he’s succeeding.
Take, for instance, this cable-knit sweater dress. It comes in what Robinson calls “menswear gray,” but with a feminine silhouette and details like mother-of-pearl buttons (not to mention that it costs less than $100). It’s the kind of thing you can easily throw on over tights and boots for work, or with bare legs and heels for a night out. And it epitomizes Robinson’s philosophy of creating “easy clothes that make you look great without trying too hard.”
The same could be said of this wool coat. The shape is based on a traditional men’s topcoat, but it has been streamlined for a woman’ s body and comes in a pretty blush pink hue. It also has some handy extras: namely, large front pockets that are big enough to fit your BlackBerry, wallet and keys (no more fumbling around in tiny purses!). And did we mention it costs less than $200?
Another great find from the collection is this cashmere hoodie. It looks like something you would wear to lounge around at home on a Sunday morning, but it can easily be dressed up with skinny jeans and high heels for evening cocktails with friends. Plus, who doesn’t love being cozy in cashmere? The best part is that this piece won’t break the bank either – it’s under $250!
So whatever your budget may be, there are plenty of ways to get the menswear-inspired looks from Patrick Robinson’s latest collection into your fall wardrobe rotation without spending a fortune… or looking like you’re trying too hard!
